Choosing truly unusual cat names can be a challenging if not daunting task for many folks. If you can’t get the old creative juices flowing, not to worry, this piece will help you break out of the same old “name rut” that you’re in right now, open up your mind and soak up the following ideas.
The first idea that we’d like to present is to look at names from popular legends, fables, and myths because as we all know cats are mysterious creatures that somehow seem to belong to ages gone by, their unpredictable personalities and sense of wisdom sometimes seem out of place in our modern world so these are usually a good fit.
Here are some potential names to get you started–how about Hercules for a boy? No? What about Homer or maybe Ulysses? We think those are all pretty good male names. For a female cat we might suggest Athena, or Artemis, maybe Aphrodite? Those are all good ones as well, there’s plenty of information on ancient myths and legends you should be able to come up with no shortage of names. Try matching your kitten’s personality with an ancient Greek God or Goddess, or other hero as we have done here, fun stuff.
Some people may not like have liked those ideas, which is cool, to each their own. If you didn’t like those, let’s move on, how about using odd tropical fruits for names? There are so many fruits from around the world that we don’t usually eat in the western world, making them kind of exotic and good for names. We think Kiwi or Mango aren’t too bad, but you can go as far out as you like.
People who like this idea may like names based around flowers as well. There are many types of flowers with unusual names that you don’t hear every day, maybe Magnolia, or Daffodil will fit the bill…hey that rhymes. Remember to have fun with the naming process and it won’t seem like such a giant negative energy drainer, does it seem that way? It shouldn’t.
If you cat is of a Spanish origin why not name them an unusual Spanish name? There are literally books filled with all kinds of all Spanish names – from Alfredo to Alfonso to Adriana. Yes, those names have a bit of flair to them.
Perhaps your cat is a Siberian or a Russian Blue? Well then how about a Russky name? That makes sense, and you could certainly go for the unusual if you like. You could chose a last name instead of a first name. How does Kirov grab you? Or maybe Moskvina? Yes, that feels like our winner in our game of unusual cat names. Of course, you might hate it. But now you’ve got some great ideas to find your own.
